People who have had an emotional or physical trauma which they continuously relive and cannot let go of may be experiencing PTSD.
PTSD can be triggered by such experiences as the sudden death of a loved one, surviving a natural disaster, being raped or assaulted, severe repeated abuse or witnessing death during wartime. These are just a few examples, but causes of PTSD are many and varied.
If trauma happened at a very early age it may also be the case that the only memory is that of feeling anxious and fearful with no realisation that these feelings are actually due to PTSD. It is also the case that people may experience panic attacks, flashbacks, nightmares or severe depression and may relive memories and anxiety with the same intensity as if the event were real over and over again. They may appear jumpy and nervous or overreact in certain situations and are liable to lash out in anger or cry at the slightest provocation.
Most people are able to slowly come to terms with a trauma after a period of time has passed. However, some people continue to experience the same debilitating levels of anxiety which negatively affect every aspect of their life. This may manifest in failed relationships, feelings of loneliness, perfectionist tendencies, depression, alcoholism, drug abuse, workaholic tendencies or an inability to cope or to hold down a job.
Hypnotherapy can help heal the inner self so that it is possible to move forward and enjoy life.
